The silence of the visual arts in writing

Putting aside the written word for a brief time to explore the influence of the arts for improving writing creativity.

This writing opportunity provides the space and freedom to write.  Sessions are aimed at promoting writing that inspires the hesitant beginner and also encourages those who are well on their way and would like support and inspiration to continue their writing journey.

During all sessions, we will work together as a group to provide constructive criticism.  This is the best means of creating, inspiring and improving your writing.  There are also sessions set aside aimed specifically at enabling you to write in your own company, within comfortable surroundings. The main thing is that this is Your Time to Write, away from distractions, interruptions and all those things that seem to take priority over writing.

Introduction

A chance to meet and greet.  Meet your writing facilitator and fellow group members and discuss your objectives for the following days.  The atmosphere here will be relaxed and informal giving you the space to consider what you would most like to achieve over the course of the next few days.  Then, as a group we will spend time reading and critiquing the writing of a variety of published authors to gain an appreciation of the range of ways that different writers tackle creativity in their themes, plots, characters, dialogue and emotion.

Session
One

Turning writing on its head and using art as a medium to write.  This session puts aside the written word for a brief time in order to experience how writing can be inspired by art.  We will visit a local art gallery and spend a little time exploring how we can describe in writing that which we can experience through the silence of art. There will be time in the evening to explore on your own the ideas generated from this session using exercises provided.

Session
Two

Both as a group and individually we will work together on the generation of ideas using a range of visual and audio art stimulus to get you started and help you to sustain an easy flow of writing.  All writing exercises are done in a relaxed and supportive environment to enable you to maximise your creativity and help make your writing experience inspired and energised.
